A downpour and a tornado hit Antalya, towers collapsed on the beaches, tourists are scared

Heavy rains and tornadoes that hit Antalya scared the tourists who arrive at Turkish resorts every day. Apocalyptic shots, accompanied by fallen trees and towers that fell on the beaches, scared tourists.

“Due to heavy rain in the resort town on the morning of May 6, lakes formed on the roads, and cars got stuck in some places, so drivers actively used the services of tow trucks. Asphalt in Konyaalta rose under water pressure” – this is the description of the consequences of the natural disaster, according to the Turkish publication Hurriyet. Transport collapse was recorded in Kepez, Konyaalta, and Muratpaşa districts.

In addition, the downpours led to a powerful flood. “Every year, due to heavy rain, water accumulates on the roads. I tried to drive forward, but it was very difficult, I was very nervous. It rained heavily for an hour, and vehicles were difficult to move,” a resident shared his impressions of what was happening.

On the same day, tourists spotted a tornado near Selinus Beach in the Gazipasa district of Antalya. As experts from the Main Department of Meteorology of the city explained, it was formed due to precipitation and a storm. The natural phenomenon was visible even from the city center and made eyewitnesses quite nervous.

Strong waves in the Mediterranean Sea hit the most popular beaches of Antalya. Yes, waves and wind gusts knocked down dozens of rescue towers on the coast. Giant waves swallowed some of them and dragged them into the sea. One of the rescuers said the following: “The rain intensified late at night. Some lifeguard towers here were taken by the sea, and some were destroyed. Some beach cafes were also affected. There have not been such big waves this season. I think the climate has changed. I’ve been here for 36 years, I’ve never seen such big waves and showers in May.”
