There should be between 150 and 200 billion Swiss francs in secret accounts. This amount is much higher than currently available data suggest.

In Switzerland, a public debate has begun about the role of this country in the global financial system. It is there that most foreign deposits are placed.

Social Democratic Party co-chair Mattea Meyer called for a freeze on all funds belonging to people close to Vladimir Putin and his government. She stressed that this money goes to finance the war in Ukraine.

Task Force to Seize the Wealth of the Oligarchs

On Wednesday, the US and its allies set up a task force to “seize and freeze” funds belonging to Russian oligarchs under international sanctions.

The group will monitor compliance with the penalties imposed on 50 people, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Outside the US, the group included representatives from Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, the UK and the European Commission, Reuters reported.

REPO is another group created to apply sanctions against the Russian elite. In early March, the US Department of Justice announced the creation of a special investigation team, KleptoCapture, to prosecute and arrest “corrupt Russian oligarchs and anyone who violates Washington’s sanctions against Moscow after the invasion of Ukraine.” KleptoCapture included members of many law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the US Marshals Service, the Secret Service, the Department of Homeland Security, and the US Postal Inspection Service.
