July this year was the warmest month in the history of the Earth since the beginning of observations, announced the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, according to AFP.
The agency, which is under the auspices of the US Department of Commerce, stressed the role of climate change in setting this new record.
“The first place here is the worst. July is usually the warmest year, but July 2021 has surpassed itself, becoming the warmest July and month ever registered, ”said Rick Spinrad, director of the department.
The average temperature of the Earth’s surface in July this year was 0.01 degrees Celsius higher than in the previous warmest July – 2016.
The American agency clarified that these statistics are kept for 142 years.
Last week, the European Earth observation program Copernicus announced that this is the third warmest July on the planet.
It often happens that there are small differences in the data of different agencies, says AFP.
