Turkish prosecutors are demanding up to 33 years in prison for eight Russians accused of plotting to kill Chechen dissidents in Turkey, the Daily Sabah reported.
The suspects were arrested during a National Intelligence Organization (MIT) operation in Istanbul last October.
The 25-page indictment accuses defendants of crimes such as political or military espionage, violating gun laws and falsifying official documents.
The suspects are also accused of plotting to assassinate a Chechen dissident named Abdulhakin, who lives in Turkey. According to information, they acted on the instructions of the State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov and Kazbek Dukuzov.
The main suspect in the case is B.R., accused of creating Delimkhanov’s spy network.
Delimkhanov’s name is linked to the 2009 killings of Chechen dissidents Umar Israilov and Sulim Yamadayev in Vienna and Dubai, and Interpol has issued an arrest warrant for a deputy following Yamadayev’s assassination in Dubai, the Daily Sabah reported.
