The independent daily Novaya Gazeta interviewed almost 2,000 Russians living in different regions of the country. Most of them confirmed the shortage of basic products on store shelves. Among the hard-to-find goods are sugar, cereals and pasta.
Russia’s stores are starting to run out of essential goods, the independent daily Novaya Gazeta reported. Three weeks after the imposition of Western sanctions, the Russian market is beginning to feel the effects of the departure of foreign contractors and logistical chaos. According to some Russian independent observers, such a situation could influence public sentiment, leading to overcoming the fear of criticism of the Kremlin’s actions.
Sugar shortage in Russia
Novaya Gazeta talked to almost 2,000 Russians living in different regions of the country. 1,130 people said that stores in Siberia, the Far East, as well as in Kazan and Moscow did not have enough sugar on the shelves. 22 percent of the participants in the Novaya Gazeta survey complained about the lack of cereals and pasta. The Russians also point to a reduction in the range of coffee, tea, fats, fruits and vegetables.
