Ukrainian low-cost SkyUp has set its sights on the South American market this winter to provide work for its aircraft and crews.
“We are not talking about flights between Europe and South America. We are talking about operating within South America. We remain in the wet leasing market, that is, the lease of our aircraft and crews to local carriers,” SkyUp CEO Dmytro Seroukhov said in an interview with CTS.
According to him, the airline is also considering the countries of Asia and Africa.
“So it will be different regions, different geography. This will mean an additional burden on us, but we will cope with it. We have no other way out,” Seroukhov noted.
Now SkyUp has used almost all its aircraft to operate in Europe and Turkey. The Ukrainian airline operates flights on behalf of other air carriers. This list includes Wizz Air, Smartwings, Freebird Airlines, Corendon Airlines, Tailwind Airlines, and Air Albania.
However, according to Seroukhov, high demand in Europe falls in the summer season, and in winter it is more difficult to find wet leasing contracts. That is why SkyUp decided to enter new markets.
