Russian President Vladimir Putin will focus Russia’s military attacks in Ukraine on separatist areas of Donbas to “win” on May 9, the anniversary of Nazi Germany’s surrender in 1945, French counterpart Emmanuel Macron was quoted as saying by France Press.
“For Russia, May 9 is a national holiday, an important military event, and almost certainly for President Putin, May 9 should be a day of victory,” Macron told French radio station RTL.
According to him, Russian forces will focus their efforts on Donetsk region.
In the coming weeks, many difficult scenes await us in this area in the east of the country, said the French leader.
He reminded that France, together with Greece and Turkey, tried to organize humanitarian corridors to the besieged port city of Mariupol in southern Ukraine, but “faced great difficulties” due to “Russia’s complete refusal” to cooperate.
Citing new anti-Russian sanctions passed by the European Union yesterday, Macron accused his party’s Marine Le Pen party, calling it the former name National Front, of remaining ambiguous and avoiding Russian condemnation.
“It is noticeable the condemnation of all members of the National Front in the European Parliament when it comes to imposing sanctions on Russia, which shows you the ambiguity that some still show towards this country, despite the war,” said the French leader.
