Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates said the current coronavirus pandemic still threatens humanity. He did so in an interview with the Financial Times.
“This pandemic still threatens us with an option that will be even more contagious and even more deadly. It far exceeds the five percent risk,” Gates said.
In this regard, he called on the world to set up a group of different international experts to quickly identify global health threats, as well as to improve coordination between countries. Gates emphasizes that large investments are needed to prevent a new pandemic.
He says the WHO needs to create a first-class team of specialists, which he says is worth about $ 1 billion a year. At the same time, he admitted that he was not sure of the possibility of reaching an international consensus on increasing WHO funding.
The Financial Times recalls that in 2015, Gates warned that the world was not ready for the imminent next pandemic.
However, in a New Year’s note at the end of 2021, Gates expressed optimism.
“I am currently writing a book to be published next year, which will set out my plan to ensure that COVID-19 becomes the latest pandemic,” he said.
