In India, cases of infection with a new strain of coronavirus, which was called Eris, have been recorded. The report of the Indian Coronavirus Genomics Consortium is quoted by the Economic Times.
The Eris strain (EG.5.1) – a subspecies of “omicron” – was discovered in the UK in July. Until recently, the strain did not cause great concern, but scientists are concerned about the speed of its spread and the increase in the number of cases.
Specialists are alarmed by the fact that the strain is spreading quite quickly.
The Ministry of Health of India cites the following data: while 54 cases of coronavirus infection per day have been recorded in the country, the total number of infected has reached 1574 at the moment.
