Drinking a glass of water every morning before a meal is a good habit, says nutritionist, gastroenterologist and nutrition blogger Nuria Dianova. But some nuances must be taken into account, she warned in an interview with Sputnik radio.
When a person drinks water on an empty stomach before breakfast, the body wakes up, digestive processes are activated, the gastrointestinal tract works, – says Dianova. With regular use, it normalizes the intestinal flora, cleanses the skin and improves mood.
“All processes start, the stomach will work like clockwork, a person will have a good mood, clean skin and good microflora. From the point of view of gastroenterology, one of the main reflexes works – gastrointestinal, ie water intake on an empty stomach stimulates peristalsis,” says Dianova .
But not every water has this effect. In order for this habit to be really useful, it is necessary to adhere to an important condition, – the nutritionist continues.
“The water should be at room temperature, not cold, especially if you have a tendency to constipation, which is about 80% of the urban population,” she said.
If a person is bothered by abdominal pain, he should drink water warmer than room temperature, adds Dianova.
Some people like to add orange or lemon juice to a glass of water and drink on an empty stomach. But this can only be done by people without gastrointestinal diseases, warns a nutritionist.
“In the presence of gastrointestinal diseases, exacerbations such as gastritis, such water, especially cold, can cause spasms, there may be stomach pain, pancreatitis, cholecystitis,” – said Nuria Dianova.
