The Prime Minister of Japan and the President of Ukraine had a telephone conversation

The Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Sugamo had a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on April 14.

Prime Minister Suga said that Ukraine is an important partner, shares basic values ​​such as freedom, democracy and the rule of law, and that Japan has consistently supported Ukraine’s reform efforts, in particular through the G7. President Zelensky thanked Japan for Ukraine’s support and the leaders of the two countries welcomed the development of bilateral relations.

President Zelensky announced the recent aggravation of the situation in eastern Ukraine, in turn, Prime Minister Suga said that Japan has consistently supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and is concerned about the deteriorating situation in eastern Ukraine.

Prime Minister Suga expressed serious concern about unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East China and South China Seas. In addition, Prime Minister Suga strongly condemned the recent launch of ballistic missiles by North Korea and called for understanding and cooperation towards a speedy solution to the abduction of Japanese citizens. President Zelensky expressed support for Japan’s position.
