One of the leaders of the Italian anti-vaccine Luigi Marili died at the age of 64 from COVID-19 in a hospital in Perugia, according to local media.
The news of his death spread on Facebook the public movement “Liberate Italy”, which unites many opponents of vaccination.
According to Corriere della Sera, one of the anti-vaccinator’s close friends, entrepreneur Marino Reciuti, in whose company Marili worked, wrote directly on social media that he had died of COVID-19.
“My true friend, whom I have known for over 15 years, who worked with me and who could have been saved if he had not followed your ideology, instead of listening to the advice of his family and friends, has died. You should all be ashamed to even say his name, “Rekuti wrote in a comment that was later removed.
The story was covered by many Italian media, which provoked a sharp reaction from the “Liberate Italy” movement. He posted a special statement on his website calling on the press to end the “media looting” surrounding Marily’s death and threatening to sue.
The report notes that “vaccinated and unvaccinated people are infected and sick alike.”
