A tourist booked a night in a 5-star hotel but lived there for a year and a half

A resident of India broke the record for free accommodation in hotels. The man booked one night in a five-star hotel but spent 603 days there without paying a single rupee.

Ankush Dutta stayed at the famous Roseate House Hotel in Delhi. The Indian was supposed to leave the next day but lived at the hotel from May 30, 2019, to January 22, 2021, and did not pay for any services that he used at the hotel during this time. It is not yet clear exactly how the record holder managed to manage the hotel administration, but the management suspects several employees at once of colluding with Dutta.

“Hotel staff forged, deleted, added billing entries and falsified a large number of guest Ankush Dutta billing records in the hotel software system,” the police report said. However, it wasn’t just the employees who scammed them – the man himself showed fake receipts, and also canceled payments, and claimed that other people paid for him. Of course, he wouldn’t be able to cheat without the help of the hotel staff.

Hotel policy states that if a customer is overdue for more than 72 hours, this must be reported to the CEO and accountant. Employees did not inform anyone about Dutta’s unpaid bills. The hotel said they suffered losses from an enterprising guest for about $ 70,000 and demanded that a criminal case be opened against Dutta and the employees who helped him.
