The Russian tanker was detained by the Greek port authorities near the island of Euboea, according to the Athenian newspaper. “Proto-theme”, quoted by BTA.
The ship was flying the Russian flag and was detained due to NATO and EU sanctions against Moscow.
The 250-meter-long Pegasus is located in a port on the southern Aegean island.
“The detention procedure applies only to the vessel, not its cargo,” Proto Topic said.
Due to a mechanical failure, the ship had to be towed to the Peloponnese, where the fuel on it was transshipped to another tanker. However, due to bad weather he was left in the area of Euboea.
“The company that operates the tanker is likely to try to use documents to prove that its ship is not subject to Russian sanctions,” the newspaper said.
There are no other Russian courts in the area, Proto Topic adds.
