EU sanctions against oligarchs in action: Giant yacht detained in Germany

German services have captured one of the largest yachts in the world – Dilmar. Lodz is owned by Alisher Usmanov’s sister, who is under sanctions and ranked sixth on the list of the richest Russians, Bloomberg reported, citing a post by the Federal Investigation Department on a social network.

Despite efforts that the Federal Investigation Department (Bundeskriminalamt – BKA) called “covering up foreign affairs”, it was established that the owner of the yacht is Usmanov’s sister Gulbahor Ismailova, Bloomberg reports.

“The luxury yacht Dilbar is therefore subject to legal sanctions and can be legally confiscated in Hamburg,” the BKA said in a statement. Bloomberg quoted a BKA spokesman (previously cited by Deutsche Presse-Agentur – ed.) as emphasizing that the yacht cannot be “sold, leased or pledged as collateral.”

Investments in metallurgy and telecommunications

Usmanov owns a stake in USM, a Russian investment group that owns shares in Metalloinvest, one of the world’s largest iron ore producers. He also owns stakes in the telecommunications company MegaFon. He is the sixth richest Russian with $19 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The yacht was named after his mother.

Dilbar 156 meters is not the largest in length, but it has the largest displacement among yachts in the world. At the beginning of March, Dilbar was in the port of Hamburg, where repairs were taking place. According to the US Treasury, its value ranges between $600 and $750 million. The unit has, among other things, a 25-meter swimming pool with a capacity of 180 cubic meters and two helipads.
