The European Union will return its diplomatic mission to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv after it was temporarily relocated to Poland due to the Russian invasion, according to Reuters.
The EU diplomatic service says Matti Maasikas, head of the EU delegation to Ukraine, visited the country on Friday with senior bloc officials and will remain in Kyiv to resume work at the European representation and assess whether conditions are suitable for the return of staff.
European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said the move would improve the union’s interaction with the Ukrainian government and help support Ukrainian citizens.
Earlier on Friday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised to offer Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a faster start to Ukraine’s bid for EU membership.
