The Danish authorities have announced that travelers who have not been vaccinated or cured of COVID-19, who come from several EU / Schengen countries and third countries, are now subject to testing and quarantine requirements.
The decision was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 14 after it updated the entry restrictions in accordance with the latest data from the Statens Serum Institut.
Thus, according to the latest update, the EU / Schengen countries and regions listed below can now be seen in Demarck’s yellow category:
- Italy (excluding Piedmont, Aosta, Liguria, Lombardy, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia, Bolzano, Trento, Friuli-Venezia Giulia)
- Regions of Switzerland: Bern, Freiburg, Solothurn, Aargau, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Zug
- Greece, Belgium and France were also added to Denmark’s yellow list last week.
This means that travelers coming from Italy and one of the seven regions of Switzerland are subject to double testing. They must present a negative COVID-19 test result upon arrival and pass a second test as soon as they enter Denmark.
However, it was emphasized that the testing requirement only applies to those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and those who have not previously been infected with the virus.
“When returning from the yellow countries, travelers who have not been fully vaccinated or have previously been infected must be tested after entry,” the ministry said in a statement.
With the exception of countries / regions within the EU, the same ministry announced that such third countries had moved from the red list to the orange list.

“The COVID-19 National Task Force on Travel Restrictions has decided to disable the red safety valve for all current red countries and regions. This means that all the current 21 red countries and the three autonomous regions of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Northern Ireland) will be orange, not red, starting on Saturday, August 14, at 4 pm, “the ministry said.
Therefore, only unvaccinated and untreated persons arriving in Denmark from one of the countries / regions mentioned above are required to be tested and isolated upon arrival.
However, the self-isolation period can be reduced if a negative PCR test result is obtained on the fourth day after arrival.
