A rating of the most comfortable cities to live in in 2022 has been compiled, Deutsche Welle reports.
To rank the city, indicators such as stability, health, culture, environment, education, and infrastructure were evaluated. The authors are representatives of The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which is part of The Economist group.
The most comfortable city for living in was Vienna in Austria.
“Stability and good infrastructure are the main attractions of the city for its residents, backed up by good health care and plenty of opportunities for culture and entertainment,” the report says.
Last year, the Austrian capital fell to 12th place, according to The Economist Intelligence Unit. She returned to first place, pushing New Zealand’s Auckland, which dropped to 34th place due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cities in Western Europe and Canada dominate the rankings. Frankfurt, Germany’s financial capital, moved up 32 places to seventh, while Hamburg and Düsseldorf were in 16th and 22nd.
Paris, the capital of France, was ranked 19th, up 23 spots from last year. London ranked 33rd and Milan, Italy was the 49th most livable city. New York ranked 51st.
The compilers of the rating named Syrian Damascus, Lagos (Nigeria), Tripoli (Libya), Algiers (Algeria), and Karachi (Pakistan) as the most unfavorable cities for life. Of the 10 lowest-ranked cities, seven were from the Middle East and Africa. It is noted that “wars, conflicts, and terrorism” were the most important factors listed in the report regarding the low livability of these cities.
