The Australian authorities have introduced a new package of sanctions against Belarusian citizens, including Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his family members, TASS reports citing a statement by Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne, published on the website of her department.
Sanctions have been imposed on Alexander Lukashenko, his son Viktor Lukashenko and his wife Galina Lukashenko.
The Australian sanctions list also includes Belarusian ministers and military leaders.
“The government of Belarus and President Lukashenko continue to provide strategic support to Russia and its armed forces, which encroach on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Payne said, noting that Lukashenka’s son is being sanctioned because he “occupied senior positions in the government of the country and dealt with matters of national security.
Australia has already imposed sanctions against Belarus, including against the Minister of Defense.
The new package includes restrictive measures against Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus Viktor Gulevich and deputies and assistants to the Minister of Defense for allowing Russia to transfer troops, heavy weapons and tanks to Ukraine.
