The European Commission appealed to the Polish authorities with a demand to clarify the situation with the sale of thousands of Schengen visas, which allowed illegal migrants to enter Germany.
According to EC spokeswoman Anitta Hipper, the allegations of fraud and corruption “are very alarming and raise questions, including those related to compliance with European legislation. Therefore, we ask Poland to provide clarification.”
The EC gave Warsaw two weeks to provide clarifications.
Let us recall that the scandal erupted last week when it became known that the Polish Foreign Ministry was involved in a scheme for illegally issuing visas to citizens of Middle Eastern and African countries in exchange for bribes.
