Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki addressed the member countries of the European Union with a proposal to completely stop issuing Schengen visas to Russians. This statement was made by the official on Monday, April 4, at a press conference in Warsaw.
According to him, this decision was due to the Kremlin’s refusal to stop the war in Ukraine. “Strong sanctions must be imposed on Russian society. The ban on issuing visas to Russians, except for humanitarian ones,” the Prime Minister explained.
However, for some citizens of the Russian Federation, the EU authorities are ready to make an exception. It will apply only to those Russians who apply for an immigrant visa and are ready to permanently leave Russia.
It should be noted that at the end of February, one of the representatives of the Belgian government came up with a similar initiative. At that time, many travel industry experts called his proposal too populist and unviable. Nevertheless, later such a measure was nevertheless introduced, but by Estonia. She stopped issuing Schengen tourist visas to citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
