The Generation of Equality Forum is a global summit on gender equality held by UN-Women under the joint chairmanship of France and Mexico in partnership with civil society, which gives it impetus. The Generation of Equality Forum is a global summit on gender equality
Twenty-five years after the historic Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which provide the fullest basis for women’s empowerment and gender equality, the Forum will take stock of work and outline a program of concrete action to to implement gender equality by 2030 as part of the unprecedented intergenerational campaign “Generation of equality: to protect women’s rights and an equal future.”
The forum will take the form of a global open discussion aimed at promoting urgent action and empowerment in the field of gender equality. It will emphasize the power of mobilization for women’s rights, feminist solidarity and the impetus of young people to make profound changes. During the forum, direct communication with other regions of the world will be established through interactive sessions to ensure maximum involvement.
Joint participation in the forum of representatives of various stakeholders: civil society, public authorities, enterprises, municipalities, parliamentary assemblies, trade unions, the media, etc. – will help draw attention to intergenerational and multilateral partnerships.
The forum will establish concrete partnerships and increase accountability in order to take greater urgent action on key issues to achieve gender equality.
Coalitions of actions of the forum “Generation of Equality”: a course to achieve concrete results
France will host the Generation of Equality Forum from June 30 to July 2. On the eve of it, multilateral coalitions of action will be formed. As during the French G7 presidency, coalitions will bring together governments, civil society and the private sector to achieve concrete and measurable results in 5 years on the following six themes:
- Gender violence
- Economic law and justice
- The right to dispose of one’s body, sexual and reproductive health
- Activities of women in defense of climate justice
- Technology and innovation
- Feminist movements and leadership
These themes have been identified by UN Women in close collaboration with civil society, Mexico and France.
France will lead a coalition of action and will work with all partners in the coming months to ensure the success of this historic event to protect gender equality.
