On November 30, 2018, the UAE Embassy in Ukraine held a reception on the occasion of the national holiday – National Day dedicated to the 47th anniversary of the founding of the United Arab Emirates.
National Day is celebrated annually on December 2, the day of the founding of the state in 1971 and the unification of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, Umm al-Quwain.
2018 was declared the “Year of Zayed” in the United Arab Emirates, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sheikh Zayed – the first president and founder of the state, because it was he who initiated the unification of the 7 Emirates. The Emirates call him “Father of the Nation”, adults and children are proud of him, and his visions and words inspire not only compatriots but also people around the world. Many streets, bridges, institutions, organizations and mosques are named after Sheikh Zayed. Therefore, this year’s celebration of National Day is dedicated to the memory of Sheikh Zayed. A photo exhibition was organized as part of the reception, where Ukrainian and foreign guests could get acquainted with a part of the history of the UAE and the life of its founder.
