Turkey announces an 82-hour curfew

As a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19, Turkey has announced a nationwide curfew from Thursday evening to Monday morning.

According to a circular from the Ministry of the Interior, the four-day curfew from 19:00 on April 22 to 5:00 on April 26 will concern the holiday of national sovereignty and Children’s Day, as well as weekends.

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, no public gatherings will be held in connection with the national holiday, except for the official wreath-laying ceremony.

Due to the growing number of cases of illness and death since last week, the country has special measures during the first two weeks of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims.

Curfew on weekdays now lasts from 19:00. (Postponed from 21:00) to 5:00, during which long-distance travel is also prohibited, except in emergencies. The curfew on weekends is also maintained in high-risk cities.

Cafes and restaurants provide only delivery and takeaway services, while wedding halls, sports and games rooms will be closed until the end of Ramadan.
