In Hurghada, a shark was caught that ate 23-year-old Russian citizen Vladimir Popov.
Recall that a man died after being attacked by a tiger shark off the coast of the Egyptian resort town of Hurghada on the Red Sea on Thursday, June 8. A video of the tragic incident went viral on the same day.
The video shows a man trying to escape from an attack by a shark circling around him. Despite his efforts and cries for help, a predatory fish drags him underwater in front of his father.
A diver who arrived at the scene immediately after the attack said that people rushed to help the victim after a lifeguard from a nearby hotel raised the alarm, but did not get there in time.
In connection with the incident, Egyptian authorities closed local beaches and blocked a 74-kilometer section of the coastline. They announced a complete ban on swimming, snorkeling and other water sports until Sunday. In their opinion, the blood left in the water can attract new predators and there is a high threat of attacks that can lead to new victims.
Immediately after the incident, local rescuers began an operation to catch a tiger shark that killed a young man. Later, the shark was caught, and a video appeared on the network with the alleged capture.
Egypt’s Ministry of the Environment (MOE) said the shark has been euthanized and is in a lab. Scientists examine the specimen and try to determine the causes of the rare attack.
Some Internet users did not believe the authorities and suggested a catch, comparing the video where the shark eats the victim, and another – she is already dead, surrounded by tourists. In their opinion, the rescuers caught the wrong shark.
