According to Thai PBS, Thai authorities have decided to build two new airports to cope with the growing tourist flow to different regions of the country.
Thus, Lanna Airport will appear in the northern province of Lamphun, 25 km from the city of Chiang Mai. The second air harbor is Andaman, which will open in the southern province of Phang Nga near Phuket.
Annual passenger traffic at the two airports is expected to reach 40 million.
4.3 billion dollars will be spent on construction. Implementation of the project will begin in mid-2024; the timing of the commissioning of the air harbors has not yet been announced.
In addition, the Thai authorities intend to expand Phuket Airport so that it can serve 20 million passengers a year, as well as expand Bangkok’s main airport Suvarnabhumi by 50%, open a third terminal at Don Muang Airport and build a new terminal at Chiang Mai Airport.
