Two European tourists, one French and one Swiss, were evicted from the Peruvian world heritage site Machu Picchu on May 4 after one posed naked and the other took pictures of him, according to Laprensa Latina.
“The wonder of the world must be respected! A foreigner who undressed only to take a picture at Machu Picchu in Cusco was detained by the Peruvian National Police tourist police,” the agency said on social networks.
Cusco’s director of culture, Maritza Rosa Candia, later commented that a naked tourist had been spotted near the Guardian’s House at the top of the Inca citadel.
“To be naked in the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park is not allowed by the rules,” Kandia said.
Photos taken by the 23-year-old Frenchman of the 26-year-old Swiss were removed in front of the police, and the tourists were handed over to the police station for further investigation. Kandia urged visitors to follow the visiting rules.
