According to the publication, the three friends went on vacation to the Mexican capital in late October to celebrate the Day of the Dead. Travelers rented accommodation through the Airbnb service near the prestigious Santa Fe area.
In early November, resort town officials reported that US citizens had been found dead in a rented apartment. The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, which opened an investigation into the case, found that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.
Airbnb called the incident a terrible tragedy. Representatives of the service also expressed their readiness to cooperate with the authorities in this case.
