Residents of the popular Spanish resort of Magaluf on the island of Mallorca have expressed their desperation over the trouble caused by tourists who disturb their peace at night. Eyewitnesses film noisy vacationers who are caught drinking, singing, and screaming in the streets before dawn.
Mallorca locals say the tourist problem is taking on a “horror” dimension. Social media is flooded with videos filmed from balconies of merry vacationers roaming the streets at night, singing loud songs and yelling. One of the videos, filmed by a resident of Avenida de l’Olivera, shows such an environment and sounds that do not stop until the morning. According to her: “These groups are like flocks walking through the streets. It’s scary, and we face it every day. The noise continues until dawn. Magaluf turns into a sleepless city.”
One resident noted that even outside the peak holiday season, Spanish students can be noisy at night, but during the summer months foreign tourists are the culprit. She joked that the locals were assuming that these groups of tourists had fallen off the Pirate Adventure show. However, according to her, no one on this street can sleep peacefully.
Residents are also annoyed by the fact that the police are an “indifferent” link. “I saw how the local police and the Spanish Civil Guard do nothing. They just patrol,” said one of the witnesses.
In addition, she mentioned that some tourists walk the streets naked and others throw rubbish on the road.
According to statistics, foreign visitors stay in the area for an average of 7.2 days, making up a large part of the local tourism sector.
