A tourist of unknown origin climbed the pyramid of Kukulkan in the ancient city of Chichen Itza in Mexico. Then she danced, waving her hat, in front of an angry crowd who shouted obscenities at her. Climbing the 24-meter pyramid built by the Mayans has been banned since 2008.
According to the Daily Mail, when the woman climbed the 91 steps, angry people started yelling, “Jail! To jail! To jail!”. As soon as she came down, she was pelted with plastic bottles.
The tourist managed to leave the scene, but now she faces punishment: a fine of up to 5138 USD and imprisonment of up to 10 years, provided for by the federal law on archaeological, artistic and historical monuments of Mexico.
