The Guardian newspaper reports that at least 21 people have died as a double-deck tourist boat capsized in the southern Indian state of Kerala.
Police said there were about 40 people on board. The boat capsized due to an overload. Many of the passengers were not wearing life jackets.
Most of the victims are children, in India at the moment the school holidays.
Authorities expect the death toll could rise as the boat capsized and became stuck in the mud and had to be pulled out to rescue the people trapped inside, which took time.
