Countries of the Asia-Pacific region
Not only is the European region showing a rapid recovery of the tourism sector, a similar situation is observed in the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, which includes Asia and America. The number of tourists in the first quarter of this year increased by 275 percent.
“The 2022 booking data from ForwardKeys is a clear signal of a strong recovery in the global travel and tourism sector. Travel to the Asia-Pacific region is showing impressive signs of improvement, as destinations are gradually opening their borders to tourists in line with consumer demand, ”said Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC.
ForwardKeys Insights Vice President Olivier Ponti also commented on the positive developments. He said it was very comforting to see that most destinations, especially Asia, had finally begun to open to travelers.
“It is very gratifying that Asia has finally begun to open up, which is helping to return both travel to Asia and within the region, which will undoubtedly contribute to the recovery of the world economy,” he said.
Here are the main theses from the report:
- The growth of international bookings was particularly noticeable in Asia, mainly due to the easing of co-restrictions.
- In addition to the above, it is expected that the destinations in North and South America will also be among the top 20 to be presented this summer. Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Aruba and Jamaica are expected to have the highest numbers of arrivals.
- Africa and the Middle East are also in the top 20, and Qatar, Tanzania and Egypt are approaching pre-pandemic levels.
- Other areas of summer vacation will also register positive trends in the coming months.
