A British tourist’s holiday turned into a nightmare after she suffered severe swelling of her face due to sun poisoning. She told the Daily Mail about her unpleasant experience.
The publication reports that Abbie Leverseidge, 22, from Northampton, traveled to the Spanish island of Lanzarote with her boyfriend in early July 2023. On the second day of rest, terrible trials began.
The tourist said that she was badly burned in the sun. However, according to her, it was not like a simple burn that was treated with aloe vera and painkillers. Leversidge’s face began to swell, and she realized that it was sun poisoning, a more severe case of sunburn.
The traveler had to hide her face with a hat and sunglasses for the rest of the trip. According to her, friends kindly compared the transformed face of Leversidzh with the appearance of Lenny, the shark from the Shark Tale cartoon.
“I couldn’t be in the sun; I couldn’t drink alcohol. It was very sad because I wanted to drink my all-inclusive cocktails.
The Briton went to the pharmacy, where she was given a cream and antibiotics. But the swelling of the face continued to increase for another two days. When the traveler returned home, she felt much better and decided to share her story to let other vacationers know about sun poisoning.
