The level of safety is becoming the main priority for tourists – and especially for them, the experts of the British newspaper Express presented the safest tourist destinations in 2023. The study was compiled by the Get Licensed company, having analyzed the level of crime, citizens’ trust in the police, and other criteria such as mandatory “minority rights”.
Interestingly, no traditional sea and beach resorts made it to the top ten. For safety, European tourists will go anywhere from the nearest Mediterranean – from Iceland to Japan. Although, of course, there are EU countries on the list.
In general, the ranking of the safest travel destinations in 2023 is as follows:
- Reykjavik, Iceland
- Bern, Switzerland
- Bergen, Norway
- Kyoto, Japan
- Taipei, Taiwan
- Singapore, Singapore
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Salzburg, Austria
- Tokyo, Japan
- Doha, Qatar/Ljubljana, Slovenia
“Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, was recognized as the safest vacation destination in 2023 with low crime and murder rates. Although petty theft and anti-social behavior can occur, especially in bars where people gather late at night in the center of Reykjavík. The city also has a good track record for minority rights, and its residents have a high level of trust in the police,” the newspaper writes.
However, even regarding safe Reykjavik, did not forget to publish a warning to tourists. “Be aware of your surroundings, and if you notice unusual activity, you should leave the area immediately and follow all instructions given by the police and local authorities,” the publication writes.
