Two of the SpiceJet pilots have already taken disciplinary action. The reason for the trial was a photo published on the Internet. Judging by it, the pilots put a glass of coffee directly on the launch lever of the plane, reports India Times.
The incident occurred on March 8 on board a plane flying from Delhi to the city of Guwahati. The reason for the scandal was a photo from the cockpit that went viral on the network. The men put a glass of coffee on the plane’s launch lever and ate gujiyas, a traditional sweet fried pastry made on Holi.
The Indian Civil Aviation Authority has demanded that the irresponsible crew members be identified immediately and action taken against them.
“The next day, SpiceJet found the perpetrators and removed them from flights. Upon completion of the investigation, disciplinary measures will be taken against the pilots,” a spokesman for SpiceJet said.
Senior pilots of the airline also expressed concern about the act of their colleagues.
“The coffee cup was placed on the aircraft’s fuel levers in the middle of the center console. If the coffee spilled, it could lead to a short circuit and a false fire alarm at best. The crew would have to unload the fire extinguishers and declare an emergency. In general, dashboard fluids are “catastrophe. They can cause a short circuit and loss of control over the ship or communication with the dispatcher,” they said.
