Thailand tightens alcohol rules: tourists face fines

З 8 листопада в Таїланді діють нові правила продажу та вживання алкоголю. Порушення може коштувати туристам до 10 000 батів (понад €260).

Travellers heading to Thailand are being warned to familiarize themselves with the country’s new alcohol regulations, effective November 8.

According to Daily Mail, those caught drinking or purchasing alcohol outside permitted hours could face fines up to 10,000 Thai baht (around €265).

What’s new

Under the new rules, alcohol sales remain legal only between:

  • 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., and

  • 5:00 p.m. – midnight.

Buying or receiving alcoholic beverages outside these hours, even from convenience stores, is prohibited.

Advertising is also restricted — allowed only for factual or educational purposes approved by the Ministry of Health.

Officials urge caution

According to Thailand destination expert Helen Whitt,

“For most visitors, this won’t significantly affect their trip, since bars and restaurants already follow these time limits.”

Authorities emphasize that the legal drinking age is 20, and tourists should carry ID at all times and drink responsibly at licensed venues.

Complying with these rules will help visitors avoid unpleasant surprises and enjoy the warm hospitality that Thailand is famous for.
