Acting Minister for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, Muhammad Khaled Hanafi, has called for women to be banned from visiting the popular tourist destination, Band-e-Amir National Park, TOLOnews reports.
According to Hanafi, women violated the rules for wearing the hijab or did not wear it at all while in the park. He noted that it is mainly ladies who come from other provinces or countries who do not want to abide by the rules that violate the dress code.
“Our wives and sisters will not be able to visit Band-e-Amir until we set rules for them. The security forces, the elders, and the vice police must take action. Tourism is not a life necessity,” Muhammad Khaled Hanafi said.
Band-e Amir is one of the main tourist attractions in the country. It is located in the Hindu Kush mountains in central Afghanistan and became the country’s first national park, opening in 2009. Band-e Amir is a popular holiday destination for families.
