Today, Spain is almost completely lifting the requirement to wear a protective mask indoors as new cases of COVID-19 continue to decline.
The corresponding decree was yesterday approved by the government in Madrid.
In almost two years, Spaniards will no longer be required to wear protective masks in almost all enclosed spaces.
Masks remain mandatory in hospitals and public transport, as well as in health centers and nursing homes.
The risk of contracting the coronavirus is “clearly decreasing,” Health Minister Karolina Darius told reporters after a government meeting.
The seven-day incidence in Spain on Tuesday was 257 per 100,000 people. Vaccination coverage is high, with about 85 percent of the population having at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
