According to the AFAR portal, Singapore Changi Airport will switch to verifying the identity of passengers using facial biometrics in the first half of 2024.
It is expected that this identification method will save time for passengers, the number of whom at Changi Airport is steadily growing: in August 2023 alone, the airport served more than 5.15 million people.
Biometric data will be used to create a single authentication token. With its help, the passenger will be checked at various automated points – from baggage drop-off to border control and boarding.
Next year, Changi wants to eliminate paper documents and boarding passes at check-in, but passengers will still have to carry a passport to travel around the world.
