Scientists have named the exact time when children experience discomfort during a flight

Scientists have published a study that could be a real lifesaver for parents traveling short distances with young children. According to the results, small tourists on board an airplane tend to become capricious after a certain time after takeoff.

Scientists have found that whims begin after about 27 minutes 48 seconds of flight. In addition, each tantrum lasts on average 15 minutes and 6 seconds. But that’s not all. Dr Tom Crawford from the University of Oxford has developed a mathematical formula that can help parents manage their children’s behavior and ensure a smooth journey.

Dr. Crawford considered four main triggers for tantrums in children: drowsiness, boredom, hunger, and noise. Each of these factors was rated on a scale from 0 to 10, with 0 indicating that the problem was being ignored and 10 indicating that the problem was being successfully dealt with.

Guided by this formula, the doctor offered the following recommendations:

  • 37 minutes of sleep: this is how long it takes for a child to take a nap. This can help reduce the likelihood of a tantrum.
  • 19-Minute Feeding: Eating within 19 minutes will satisfy his hunger.
  • 31 minutes of entertainment: keep your child occupied with something interesting for 31 minutes to relieve boredom.
  • 14 minutes of noise isolation: drown out ambient noise with music or reading. This will help create a more relaxed environment.

“If you eliminate all four main reasons, that is, score ten points, the average time of calm for a baby can be increased to 129 minutes, or five times more than the average,” the specialist is confident.
