“Turkey’s sales in Russia have dropped to almost zero,” – this is the news announced by the Turkish tourist newspaper Turizmguncel. The reasons for this situation were explained to the Turkish public by Orhan Sankar, the representative of PEGAS Touristik in the CIS countries, and the general director of the “Intourist” group of companies. They named three main reasons: the increase in ruble-equivalent prices for tours to Turkey, the general uncertainty of the Russian market, due to which the main sales of foreign tours occur 1-4 weeks before departure, as well as the growing role of Turkey’s competitors.
“Prices for holidays in Turkey in Russia have increased by 50-100%. In addition, after the constant closure of destinations due to sanctions due to the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, when tourists could not return their money, Russian tourists became more cautious in long-term purchases of tours. Therefore, the main volume of sales falls on the last 1-4 weeks”, Mr. Belyukbashi explained the first two reasons. He also added that now the euro exchange rate is 80 rubles, which also affects the sale of tours.
At the same time, the Pegasus representative noted the serious role of competing directions. It is primarily about a vacation in Thailand, which is now actively sold in Russia. Also, according to him, the recreation program in Vietnam is developing. At the same time, even “Egypt’s share shifted towards Thailand”, the expert clarified, the reason for which is more difficult delivery. Cuba and Venezuela were also among the competitors.
