In Italy, they decided to rename a famous ski resort.
The Alpine resort of Cervinia will return to its historical name Le Breuil. The decree on this was signed by the governor of the Valle d’Aosta region, Renzo Testolin.
Let us remind you that Cervinia is located in the commune of Valtournenche on the border with Switzerland; French is traditionally spoken here. The name Cervinia appeared in the first half of the 20th century under Mussolini.
Local activists have been fighting for more than 10 years to return the resort to its French name, and their efforts have finally been crowned with success.
However, this decision also has opponents, because the Alpine town under its Italian name has become one of Europe’s most popular ski resorts. Now it will be necessary to replace all maps, signs, and and road signs and correct thousands of administrative documents.
