In May, the Thai resort island of Phuket saw a sharp increase in the number of tourists after the removal of almost all obvious restrictions. However, Russian tourists have actually been removed from this list, although in January they were mostly at the resort. The reason for this is primarily “air sanctions”, which stopped the supply of tourists.
In total, the situation in Phuket is optimistic and plans are being developed to attract 3.5 million foreign tourists by the fourth quarter of this year. According to the Phuket Tourist Association, the number of foreign tourists has increased to 3,000-5,000 per day since May 1. During the sandbox, the number was 400-500 per day and 2,500 per day under Test & Go. That is, simplification of entry works.
But the leading markets have changed a lot. Most foreign tourists this month come from India, an average of 1,000 people a day. It is followed by Australia, an example of 10,000 Australian tourists visited Phuket in April. Other leading markets for Phuket include the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Russia, which took first place in January, has disappeared from the list. China, which was also one of the main markets for Kovid, is not mentioned at all.
But in general, the tourism industry remains optimistic and confident that concerns about the viral situation should no longer be a major concern. “Tourism is optimistic about the future and hopes that this year the island could potentially attract 3.5 million foreigners,” Phuket said.
