The Swedish government has decided to double the salary requirements for migrant workers.
This was stated by the Minister of Migration of Sweden, Maria Malmer Stenergaard, noting that the government intends to put an end to the low level of wages in this way, Euractiv reports.
“This is an important part of the paradigm shift that we are implementing in the field of immigration,” the minister said.
Income requirements for immigrant workers will be increased from SEK 13,000 (€1,238) per month to SEK 26,560 (€2,534).
Work in Sweden
In 2022, Sweden granted more than 24,000 work permits compared to approximately 9,000 residence permits for protection applicants.
According to the Migration Agency’s forecast, 100,000 foreigners are expected to apply for a work permit in Sweden in 2023.
