Named the main problems of tourists with disabilities

MMGY Global’s survey identified the top concerns for travelers with disabilities.

The survey included 2,375 adults with disabilities who use mobility aids and 414 carers or companions of people with mobility impairments.

For example, 96 percent of all respondents experienced a problem with affordable housing while traveling, 86 percent experienced difficulties with air travel, and 79 percent encountered transportation problems at their destination.

This is a high percentage considering that tourists with disabilities make about the same number of trips per year as able-bodied people and spend about $58.2 billion a year on travel.

54 percent of respondents were given a room upon check-in that did not match what they had booked. 81 percent had difficulty showering or bathing. 52 percent said the beds were too high for them to climb on easily.

In terms of transportation problems, statistics show that six out of ten respondents experienced long waits at the airport before or after their flight for mobility assistance, and 40 percent of their vehicles were lost or damaged during air travel.

As a result, the report outlines measures that may benefit in the future. More than 80 percent of respondents agreed on three key points: accessible housing for the disabled, maintenance of ramps, sidewalks, and mobile lifts, and more accessibility information on websites.
