Named the busiest airports in the world

Airports Council International (ACI) World has published the top 10 busiest airports in the world in 2021, reports Dip.org.ua referring to the website of the organization.

According to the council, the total number of passengers in the world in 2021 is estimated at 4.5 billion, which is almost 25 percent more than in 2020, but less than half compared to 2019 results.

The ranking was topped by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with 75.7 million passengers in a year.

The second busiest is Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, which served 62.5 million passengers.

Third place in the ranking at Denver International Airport – 58.8 million passengers per year.

It is noted that after reaching the first place last year, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport dropped to the eighth position. It is followed by the Chengdu-Shuangliu International Airport.

According to the organization’s report, eight of the ten largest airports by passenger traffic are in the United States, and two are in China.

The busiest airports in the world by the number of international passengers were also named. For the third year in a row, Dubai Airport holds the first position in the ACI ranking with 29.11 million passengers. Istanbul Airport is in second place with 26.46 million, and Amsterdam is in third with 25.48 million.

In this ranking, almost all airports except Heathrow in London experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic in 2021. At the same time, most of the airports in the ranking have not yet regained their pre-pandemic 2019 positions.

In 2020, the first place among European airports in terms of the number of passengers is occupied by Istanbul Airport.
