Aviation security experts told about the strict rule, due to which a tourist can get rid of his smartphone on the spot, as well as other equipment, such as a tablet or laptop. As a rule, such items are taken with them in hand luggage – and the inspection rules that exist both in Ukraine and abroad can be an extremely unpleasant surprise for a tourist.
“Make sure your device is charged when going through security. If you cannot turn on your devices at the request of security service employees, they have the right to confiscate such equipment from you,” said experts from International Citizens Insurance. The fact is that only turning on the gadget confirms that it is not a dummy, but a real device. They also presented their statistics, according to which tourists are usually unaware of such a risk.
Experts also noted that not all passengers are stopped and asked to “turn on” their devices, but random checks may be conducted at some airport security points. That is why it is extremely important to keep a phone charge, as well as a laptop and other equipment in hand luggage.
In addition, it is worth clarifying for Ukrainian tourists: these are not only foreign realities. You may encounter a selective request to turn on your laptop or smartphone at the airports of Kyiv and the regions.
