The latest statement of the German national carrier – the Lufthansa airline – confirmed the most gloomy forecasts for the upcoming tourist season of 2023. The airline officially announced that the cancellation of flights due to lack of personnel will continue for a long time – at least until the end of the winter season, that is, until the end of March, and most likely – until the summer of 2013. Similar terms are used by other major European carriers.
According to a statement from Lufthansa, flights will be canceled in the winter flight schedule between October 30, 2022, and March 26, 2023. First of all, the cancellation will affect the carrier’s domestic flights within Germany, as well as flights within Europe. Tourists will be notified through the reservation system.
A similar statement was made by the British national airline British Airways, which canceled another 10,300 flights from July to October alone. The winter cancellation season will continue, with a further 10,000 flights scheduled from Heathrow between October 2022 and March 2023 to be canceled. The reason is the same: lack of staff at European airports, which negatively affects the activities of airlines. As a result, an 8% reduction in flights was approved by the end of March. Another 600 flights in and out of this airport will be canceled until October 29. Read more here.
According to the carriers, these decisions were made “to minimize disruptions in flights that will occur during the winter.” The British carrier also adds that mostly short-haul flights will be canceled, but some long-haul flights will also be affected. Most of the cancellations will be made on routes with more than one flight per day, the British airline added.
