A 30-year-old tourist from the Czech Republic was banned from entering Venice for 48 hours and fined for taking a photo in the background of a war memorial. Having undressed, she lay down on a monument dedicated to the Italian partisans who gave their lives in the fight against fascism. The girl and her friends who were filming her were noticed by a resident Mario Nazon, who was walking with his son along the embankment and contacted the police.
“It was a beautiful day, we saw a couple taking pictures. I caught some strange movement, and then I noticed a woman floating carelessly, an eyewitness told CNN. “I thought she was crazy for swimming on such a cold day. She climbed out of the water, climbing the monument, wearing only bikini bottoms, lay down, and then, completely relaxed, returned to the water. Her boyfriend and another woman jumped over the fence and climbed the monument to improve the shots. Next to them were the girl’s clothes, as if on the beach.
The tourist, whose name has not been released, was detained by the police. According to another CNN source, the girl admitted that she was lying on the monument depicting a dead partisan. She paid fines totaling 513 EUR and was also banned from entering Venice for 48 hours.
“They were like, ‘What’s the problem? Just unbelievable, Mario wonders. “They had no idea what they did wrong.”
