A “near-death bungee jumping experience” advertised by an amusement park in Pattaya turned into a wild shock for a tourist: the rope snapped as the tourist jumped. Fortunately, the accident happened at the bottom of the jump, above the lake, the tourist managed to survive and swim out without even being seriously injured and was able to later tell his story to CNN. But the experience was truly unforgettable.
A tourist’s jump into the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park – and the moment when the rope under him breaks – became a viral video on social networks. As a result, the authors of the material found a hero. He identified himself as Mike and asked that no other information about him be released to “avoid online harassment.” And then he told such a story.
The tourist visited the Safari Park with friends back in January of this year. It offers tourists a variety of entertainment — from ziplining and actual bungee jumping to less extreme activities, such as archery.
“At first I went to the park to try out the shooting range, and I wasn’t planning on bungee jumping. But my friends persuaded me. It was very high up there, so I closed my eyes. I thought I would open them when I got up again,” the tourist said. It should be said that the platform of this “jumper”, as the publication assures, is at the height of a 10-story building. And the bungee cord snapped when the hiker was at the bottom of his flight. Fortunately, the jump was made over a body of water.
“I realized that the rope had broken when something hit me and I was in the water. I landed on my left side, so the injuries there were more serious,” said Mike. However, he managed to swim to the surface and stay afloat, although “it felt like someone had just beaten me”, and in addition, his legs remained tied by part of the broken cable. “I’m afraid if I didn’t know how to swim, my problems would be more serious,” the tourist adds, admitting further that a park employee immediately rushed to help him.
Nitit Intim, the founder of the park, confirmed that the NP had indeed happened and said it was the first time he had seen the bungee cliff. “Our employees immediately pulled the tourist out of the water and asked if he was okay. He said he felt “bruised all over”. That’s why we took him to the hospital,” the head of the park said. The tourist, in turn, confirmed that the park reimbursed the cost of his jump and paid for the X-ray and ultrasound in Thailand. However, Mike signed a disclaimer before the jump. “Our staff explained that in case of any accident or accident, our company will compensate the medical bills. But the customer cannot claim reimbursement for other expenses,” the head of the park said. However, he added that the park is willing to pay the tourist all “direct medical expenses” if receipts are provided.
